Château de Poncié is more than just a winery; it is a complete ecosystem entrusted to a new generation of independent and motivated winemakers in 2020.

The crew of roughly ten winemakers works with reverence for historic knowledge, soil specificity, period equipment, and the multiplicity of flora and fauna. This diversity allows us to preserve a healthy environment and the authenticity of our wines.

A certified organic vineyard

Out of 100 hectares almost in one piece, 35 hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of vines. Far from the world of intensive agriculture, our winemakers listen to nature and its offerings. The Estate has been committed to organic farming since 2016. The grapes ripen in a highly respected and diverse environment, where the planting of trees and hedges, as well as the presence of animals, emphasize the uniqueness of the soil and the quality of our wines. This is where the concept of biodiversity takes on its full meaning.

All our parcels are cultivated and grassed. In order to improve our soils and provide them with the organic matter necessary for good dynamic growth, we make our own compost. As a result, the plant draws from its reservoir to the extent that the previous year's grape crop depleted it.

Biodynamics is an important part of our winery's culture.

A close connection with nature

Rudolf Steiner, the creator of biodynamic agriculture, defined it as "an agriculture that ensures the good health of the soil and plants in order to provide healthy food for animals and humans". Sharing this vision, the vintners at the Poncié Estate have a very close relationship with their environment. Cultivation on mineral soil, the presence of a diverse flora and fauna, the respect of the lunar calendar, the introduction of animals on parcels, the production of homemade compost, the grassing of the vines or the spraying of herbal teas on the cultures are all the results of a thorough approach. The aim is to give life and energy to the vines in the most natural way possible.

A new eco-responsible estate

A new eco-responsible estate

Why start from scratch when it is possible to give a second life to what surrounds us? Architect Didier Repellin, recognized for his "understanding of heritage as a tool for linking cultures, generations, the past and the future", carried out a historical analysis and a heritage and architectural diagnosis in order to restore the Poncié Estate to its full potential, while respecting its soul and history.

Today, major works are underway with a genuine desire to restore the Estate to its former glory.

How does our team create something new out of something old?

Every link that gives life to Château de Poncié is attentive to nature. Promoting a more local economy, favoring a short supply chain approach, and reducing the carbon footprint of the work performed is a priority. To preserve our ecosystem, special attention is devoted to the use of resources and materials from the Estate.

During the renovation of the old vat room, the discarded vats were reused to store rainwater. Materials that can be crushed (stones, tiles) will be reused to renovate roads, and so on.

This eco-responsible approach extends even to the walls, as the reconstruction of the buildings will be carried out using geothermal energy. The earth's heat does not consume energy and allows the heating and cooling of all buildings and vats without emitting any greenhouse gases.

Our garden, green lung of Château de Poncié

Our garden, green lung of Château de Poncié

Dating from the 18th century, the garden and orchard surrounding Château de Poncié are an integral part of the Estate's green lung, in addition to the 35 hectares of vineyards.

In order to give them a new lease of life in keeping with the times, while respecting the flora and fauna that inhabit them, the project to renovate the garden and orchard is being carried out by landscape architect Louis Bénech, whose expertise was showcased during the renovation of the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris.

The values of 1,000 years of history are passed down from generation to generation.
Each one contributes their own stone to the edifice, preserving the successes of the past while adapting them to the needs of today. For these, the team of Château de Poncié represent a new generation of independent and committed winemakers, more than ever aware of the impact of their work on the ecosystem.
